The following is a statement from the Corporación Campo de Concentración 3y4 Álamos

In the face of racist offenses: we express solidarity and request an investigation against those found responsible.

In recent days, we have become aware of regrettable incidents of a racist nature that occurred during the Pan American Games 2023, directly affecting some national athletes. The Haitian-Chilean sprinter, Berdine Castillo Lillo, publicly announced that she had been a victim of racist, classist, and elitist insults by authorities in the national sports arena.

Without delving into the technical merits inherent to a sports discipline, we find this situation extremely serious, as it violates fundamental rights of individuals (Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights), especially considering that the attack took place at the National Stadium, a Site of Memory and former Concentration and Torture Camp of the civil-military dictatorship, where thousands of Chileans, some of whom were last seen there, passed through. It is our duty to express solidarity with the athletes who have been victims of this xenophobic attack.

As the Corporación Campo de Concentración 3y4 Álamos, we categorically reject this type of practice and urge Mr. Jaime Pizarro, Minister of Sports, and Mr. Harold Mayne-Nicholls, Executive Director of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, to conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the facts and to sanction those responsible for such serious accusations. We do not want anyone to suffer pain in this sports facility or anywhere else ever again.

We appreciate the courage of the athletes in making the complaint, and we emphasize that as a country, it is necessary to reject these practices that cannot be justified.

Ante ofensas racistas: solidarizamos y pedimos una investigación contra quienes resulten responsables

Nos hemos enterado durante los últimos días de lamentables hechos de carácter racista ocurridos durante la realización de los Juegos Panamericanos 2023, que han afectado directamente a algunas deportistas nacionales. La velocista haitiana-chilena, Berdine Castillo Lillo, a través de un comunicado, hizo público haber sido víctima de insultos racistas, clasistas y elitistas por parte de autoridades del deporte nacional.

Sin entrar en los méritos técnicos propios de una disciplina deportiva, nos parece una situación gravísima, que viola derechos fundamentales de las personas (Artículo 2 de la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos), y aún más cuando el ataque se produjo en el Estadio Nacional, Sitio de Memoria y ex Campo de Concentración y de torturas de la dictadura civil-militar, por donde pasaron miles de chilenos y chilenas, algunos de los cuales fueron vistos allí por última vez. Es nuestro deber expresar nuestra solidaridad con las deportistas que han sido víctimas de este ataque xenófobo.

Como Corporación Campo de Concentración 3y4 Álamos rechazamos tajantemente este tipo de prácticas y solicitamos al señor Jaime Pizarro, Ministro del Deporte y al señor Harold Mayne-Nicholls, Director Ejecutivo de los Juegos Panamericanos Santiago 2023, que realicen una investigación en profundidad para esclarecer los hechos y se sancione a los responsables de tan graves imputaciones, no queremos que nunca más nadie sufra un dolor en este recinto deportivo y en ninguna parte.

Agradecemos la valentía de las deportistas al hacer la denuncia, y reiteramos que es necesario que como País rechacemos estas prácticas que nada puede justificar.
