CPUSA Statement on the U.S.’s Veto of the U.N. Ceasefire Resolution

The Communist Party USA unequivocally condemns the Biden administration’s decision to veto the proposed ceasefire resolution in the UN Security Council, as well as its continued support for the ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinian people of Gaza.

Since the Israeli campaign began last October, the people of the world have woken up to the crimes of imperialism and apartheid. Across the globe we see mass movements of working class and peace-loving people taking to the streets to demand an end to the horrific violence and in support of Palestinian rights to self-determination.

The Biden administration chooses to rely on weak excuses about ongoing negotiations in an attempt to shield its true intention of continuing its unquestioned support for the Israeli regime and the slaughter in Gaza. However, as these negotiations continue, the people of Gaza are suffering. Over 30,000 people have been killed, mostly civilians, including over 10,000 children, civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, over a million people have been displaced and there are shortages of basic human needs.

Now the Israeli war machine stands at the doorsteps of Rafah, a city housing more than a million displaced Gazans, a city once designated a safe zone for civilians seeking safety. Human rights experts are warning that an Israeli attack on Rafah will lead to an unprecedented disaster.. However, the Biden administration has chosen to not support an immediate ceasefire and to continue to send tens of billions of dollars to the Israelis military so that they can buy military equipment and increase the profits of the military industrial complex.

At the same time, as the world is focused on Gaza, the Israeli apartheid government has increased its repression in the West Bank.

The situation is dire and requires immediate action!

CPUSA calls on the Biden administration to cease all arm shipments and aid to the Israeli government!

End its policy of giving Israel diplomatic and legal protection in the UN Security Council!

Immediately resume funding UNRWA so that aid can reach the Palestinian people!

Demand Israel put an end to this horrific crime against humanity and respect the Palestinians right to self determination.
